Trip notes: Half Moon Bay State Beach is actually four smaller
beaches, with a total of two miles of sandy shore. The park features a
trail for horseback riding that runs behind the beach parallel to the ocean
frontage. Nearby private stables rent horses for rides along the beach.
The beach is a popular location for camping, picnicking, surfing, and surf
fishing. Swimming is not advised. During summer months, this park often
fills to capacity with campers touring Highway 1. The campground has level,
grassy sites for tents, a clean parking area for RVs, and a state beach
available just a short walk away. Side trips include Princeton and Pillar
Point Marina, seven miles north on Highway 1, where fishing and whale watching
trips are possible.
